The main use for Karils is Magic Defence and I believe it is the strongest Magic Defence armor without a Melee Attack negative, which is why you might see it used more for Melee than for Ranged. But your defence level when rolling a magic attack is 30% defence level and 70% magic level. 70% of defense against Magic is based on the Magic level, while 30% is based on the Defence level. It's magic level only on monsters, 70/30 on players. I advise using magic on karil. Iban blast, toss in a dds spec if you can.
